First Aid at Work

First Aid at Work (FAW) is a 3 day training course, which includes the content of EFAW and also covers more complex first aid scenarios. It is suitable for trainees working in higher risk environments, such as construction, utilities and remote workers.

Industry Experience

Contour Training’s industry experience includes working with both public and private sector, construction and utility sectors, government organisations, local authorities, MOD and conservation groups. We have some of the most experienced Lantra Awards and NPORS trainers in the UK, many of whom are also highly experienced with all types of all-terrain vehicles.

Awarding Bodies

We can offer first aid courses accredited by Lantra Awards and our own Contour Training certification. In both cases the courses comply with HSE requirements.

First Aid at Work (FAW) Training Course Content

Duration: 3 days

Maximum delegates: 12

Awarding bodies: Contour Training / Lantra Awards

On completion of training, successful candidates should have satisfactorily demonstrated competence in the below topics, as covered in EFAW:

  • Understand the role of the first aider
  • Assess the situation and circumstances in order to be able to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency
  • Administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious (including seizure)
  • Administer Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Administer first aid to a casualty who is choking
  • Administer first aid to a casualty who is bleeding
  • Administer first aid to a casualty who is suffering from shock
  • Provide appropriate first aid for minor injuries (cuts, grazes, bruises, minor burns and scalds)

Additional topics covered in the 3 day of the course:

  • Recognise the presence of major illness (including heart attack, stroke, epilepsy, asthma, diabetes) and provide appropriate first aid
  • Administer first aid to a casualty with – injuries to bones, muscles and joints, including suspected spinal injuries
  • Chest injuries
  • Burns and scalds
  • Eye injuries
  • Sudden poisoning
  • Anaphylactic shock
