Our chainsaw maintenance and cross-cutting course will provide you with the appropriate techniques and safety guidelines to ensure that you are not only confident when using a chainsaw but also aware of relevant health and safety guidelines making sure you stay protected.

Who should take this course?

Our chainsaw maintenance and cross-cutting course is available for anyone who maintains and operates chainsaws for cross-cutting only. If you intend to use your chainsaw to fell trees you need to look at the felling courses available.

To achieve this qualification, you’ll need to have completed two mandatory units:

  • Carry out maintenance of chainsaw and cutting system
  • Cross-cut timber using a chainsaw.

Our course involves some physical sessions, so it’s essential that delegates have at least a minimum level of fitness.

Awarding Bodies

Successful completion of this course will result in City & Guilds NPTC Level 2 Award 201/202 ( **Previously know as CS30**)

This is a two day Lantra Awards training course followed by an independent NPTC assessment on a third day.  The assessment takes place on a 1:1 basis with a City & Guilds NPTC assessor.

Duration: 2 days training, 1 day assessment

On successful completion of this training course candidates will:

  • Gain knowledge and understanding across a range of forestry and arboriculture functions and activities
  • Be able to work effectively in a forestry and arboriculture environment, both independently and as part of a team
  • Be able to review and develop your own practices, and carry out a range of practical forestry and arboriculture tasks, to the required industry standard
  • Improve your awareness of health and safety legislation and how individuals can contribute to the Health and Safety Executive’s (HSE) agenda
  • Obtain occupational competence and/or licence to practice
  • Meet the licence-to-practise or other legal requirements made by the relevant sector, profession or industry.
