We offer a 1 day course resulting in a Lantra certificate of competence for hedgetrimmer operation.

The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations Act (PUWER 1998) requires employers to provide adequate training and to ensure that any equipment used at work is operated only by employees who have received appropriate training in its safe use.

On-site training

Our network of experienced instructors across the UK allows us to offer on-site training anywhere in the UK. We can arrange equipment hire and training venues or we can visit you, as long as you have a suitable venue and equipment.

Hedge Trimmer Training Course Content

Duration: 1 day

Maximum delegates: 6

Awarding bodies: NPORS, Lantra Awards

We offer 2 day courses (1 day for experienced operators), resulting in a NPORS or Lantra certificate of competence for operating strimmers and brushcutters.

On successful completion of a hedge trimmer training course candidates will have knowledge of and be able to:

  • Produce a site-specific risk assessment for hedge trimmer operations
  • Identify the necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required
  • Identify the health and safety features required on a hedge trimmer
  • Identify defects on a hedge trimmer and decide which the operator can remedy and which require a service engineer’s attention
  • Correctly carry out all routine maintenance in accordance with the machine manufacturer’s information and/or this workbook
  • Prepare the hedge trimmer for use with the correct fuel/oil mix
  • Start the hedge trimmer from both hot and cold start in a safe manner
  • Maintain the hedge trimmer in a safe and efficient working condition
  • Adjust the hedge trimmer for safe and comfortable operation where a harness is used
  • Operate the hedge trimmer in a safe manner, having regard for the safety of the public, property and environmental factors
  • Organise the site and use a systematic method of working where possible.
