Our Ride-on Roller training courses provide safety knowledge and practical training on the safe operation of ride-on rollers.

Rollers are extensively used in the construction and groundcare industries, however these machines need to be operated by staff that have attended and passed an appropriate accredited roller training course.

Who should attend?

Our ride-on roller course is designed for people who require a formal qualification for operating a ride-on roller at work.

Course Objectives

To provide operators with the knowledge and practical skills necessary to operate ride-on rollers safely and efficiently, while knowing how to minimise the risks associated with this type of equipment.

You will learn how to:

  • Operate the machine safely and correctly in accordance with manufacturers’ instructions and accepted good practice.
  • Carry out a pre-shift inspection.
  • Operate safely under varying site conditions.
  • Carry out minor adjustments and routine services.
  • Have an understanding of responsibilities under Health & Safety at Work Act and PUWER 1998.

Ride-on Roller Course Content

Duration: 1-3 day (dependent on experience)

Maximum delegates: 3 novice, 6 experienced.

Awarding bodies: NPORS, Lantra Awards

On successful completion of a ride-on roller training course candidates will:

  • Have a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities as an operator
  • Have a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook for the particular machine to be used
  • Be able to locate and identify the major components of the machine and explain their functions
  • Be able to locate and identify key controls and explain their functions
  • Conduct all pre-operational checks in accordance with manufacturer’s and legislative requirements
  • Identify and maintain PPE appropriate for roller use
  • Prepare the roller for use and operate machinery safely and efficiently
  • Conduct all necessary safety checks at the work area
  • Operate machinery safely and efficiently
  • Environmental considerations
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of loading and unloading procedures for machine transportation
  • Carry out all end of shift and shut down procedures
